SPLOST 2005 Citizens Oversight Committee

In February 2004 a Citizens Advisory Committee was appointed by the Mayor and Commission to assist and participate in the development of the SPLOST 2005 Program. This process included the input of the community and an evaluation of the feasibility and support by the people of Athens-Clarke County. The Committee also reviewed the suggested projects and made recommendations to the Mayor and Commission for a selection of candidate Projects. A final selection of candidate projects by the Mayor and Commission was then placed on the SPLOST 2005 Referendum for approval by the citizens of Athens-Clarke County in November 2004.   

Upon approval of the SPLOST 2005 Program a twelve (12) member Oversight Committee was appointed by the Mayor and Commission from the membership of the Citizens Advisory Committee. This group is to serve as the Oversight Committee for the duration of the SPLOST 2005 Program.

The role and responsibility of the Oversight Committee is to ensure that Projects remain within their prescribed budgets, are feasible, and fulfill the Project Description identified within the Referendum.  

The Oversight Committee routinely meets monthly on the fourth Monday of each month at City Hall. The meetings are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. but may be changed as needs dictate. Please check the Calendar of Events on this Web Site to confirm meeting locations and time.
